Son Cachaceros
El proyecto fotográfico se centra en retratar a los Cachaceros, personajes icónicos de las Cuadrillas de San Martín en el Meta, Colombia. Estos individuos son parte integral de una tradición cultural que se remonta a la época colonial, donde se amalgaman influencias españolas con elementos autóctonos de la región de la Orinoquía. Los Cachaceros son conocidos por su rol satírico y cómico durante las festividades, vestidos con ropajes coloridos y máscaras o pinturas faciales que exageran los rasgos para reflejar una actitud desenfadada y crítica hacia los problemas sociales y políticos.
En el proyecto, se capturan los retratos íntimos de los Cachaceros, así como de sus caballos, que son también participantes destacados en las cuadrillas, adornados con elementos que resaltan la riqueza visual de la celebración. Las fotografías buscan no solo documentar, sino también reflexionar sobre la importancia de estos personajes en la identidad cultural de la región y cómo actúan como catalizadores de la crítica social a través de la sátira y el humor.
El proyecto fotográfico se convierte en un estudio etnográfico visual, que explora la dualidad entre la representación festiva y la función social de los Cachaceros. A través de cada imagen, se busca invitar a la reflexión sobre la persistencia de las tradiciones culturales y su relevancia en el contexto contemporáneo, ofreciendo una ventana a la rica herencia cultural del Meta y destacando el papel del arte y la cultura en la crítica y la auto-reflexión de una sociedad.
The photographic project focuses on portraying the Cachaceros, iconic figures from the Cuadrillas de San Martín in Meta, Colombia. These individuals are an integral part of a cultural tradition dating back to colonial times, blending Spanish influences with indigenous elements from the Orinoquía region. The Cachaceros are known for their satirical and comedic role during the festivities, dressed in colorful garb and masks or face paint that exaggerate features, reflecting a carefree and critical attitude toward social and political issues.
In the project, intimate portraits of the Cachaceros are captured, as well as their horses, which are also prominent participants in the cuadrillas, adorned with elements that highlight the visual richness of the celebration. The photographs aim not just to document but also to reflect on the importance of these characters in the cultural identity of the region and how they serve as catalysts for social critique through satire and humor.
The photographic project becomes a visual ethnographic study, exploring the duality between the festive representation and the social function of the Cachaceros. Through each image, the intent is to invite reflection on the persistence of cultural traditions and their relevance in the contemporary context, offering a window into the rich cultural heritage of Meta and highlighting the role of art and culture in the critique and self-reflection of a society.
